YOUTH programs

Wild Cascara Naturalist School provides K-12 hands-on outdoor learning following the Forest School model. Programs focus on unstructured time in nature, immersive learning, place-based education, and authentic play. Students gain skills in sustainable homesteading, crafts, and more. Year-round classes cover plant ID, Earthly rhythms, food sovereignty and plant medicines, and creative problem-solving. We empower students to develop sustainability practices and cultivate wisdom, creativity, and inner genius, regardless of age.

WORKSHOPS for adults

Our adult programs at Wild Cascara focus on Earth-centered practices for daily life, emphasizing reciprocity towards the Earth and all living beings. Our classes address the current global climate situation and explore ways in which we can support each other and the Earth as a community. Participants have the opportunity to fully engage with the land and learn through both play and collaboration while supporting each other in the creative process to develop authentic practices for everyday living.

At Wild Cascara, we aim to FOSTER a NURTURING & RECIPROCAL relationship with the Earth, this LAND, and our MORE-THAN-HUMAN kin, for people of all ages and backgrounds.

We seek to build a COMMUNITY that EDUCATES from an Earth-centered perspective that prioritizes INDIGENOUS knowledge and promotes COLLABORATION.

We are
WILD CASCARA

Naturalist School

At Wild Cascara, we value reconnecting with the land and its history and advocate for outdoor education to help us connect with nature's diverse voices. We believe that being in natural environments positively impacts our bodies and minds and that in healing the land, we can also promote our own personal healing. Living outside is more natural than being indoors, and by growing our own food and expanding our minds, we can escape a system that prioritizes material possessions and social constructs.

Each day we strive to provide opportunities for everyone to connect with nature and dismantle privilege. Our vision is an Earth-centered future where early education is key to raising the next generation of land stewards. By instilling a deep understanding of the Earth's needs in our youth, we can pave the way for simpler, more harmonious lives.

why OUTSIDE?

At Wild Cascara, we believe that humans are meant to learn in nature. When we re-establish our connection to the living, breathing, biodynamic world around us, we gain a deeper understanding of our place in the cycle of all living things. This knowledge helps us to ask important questions and develop our intuitive understanding, leading to a healthier relationship with the land. Children and adults alike thrive when given more time and space to play outdoors, and outdoor education allows individuals to tap into their imaginative selves. This reconnection with the natural world leads to a natural pace of healing and a deeper sense of self-worth.

What folks are saying about WCNS

“We are forever grateful for our daughter's time at Wild Cascara. Juniper’s guidance and support created an environment where she flourished and grew in ways we could only have dreamed of. Juniper exposed in our daughter a deep love of the land and getting her hands dirty, as well as nurtured her in her artistic expressions and the healing powers of stillness. Additionally, Juniper cared for, and continues to, our entire family as we have shifted into this profound rhythm of education. We are thankful for the space Juniper created for our daughter and our family to look at the world through new eyes with a deeper reverence for Mother Earth and the natural world.”

Wild Cascara LOCATION &
LAND Acknowledgement

We are located at 33472 SE Wildcat Mountain Dr, Eagle Creek 97022

Wild Cascara acknowledges the traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco-Wishram, Cowlitz, and other tribes who resided in the region. We thank them for their stewardship of these lands. We also acknowledge the ongoing impact of systemic policies on Indigenous families. Land acknowledgments are just one step towards disrupting colonialism. It's important to engage with local Indigenous nations, support their work, and take direct action, such as paying reparations.

Thanks to Portland Indian Leaders Roundtable, PSU Indigenous Nations Studies Program, and NAYA for their contributions.
